What are the differences between stucco and EIFS?

Stucco is a cement material with a textured surface applied directly to a base layer of  paper and metal lath. EIFS, or "synthetic stucco," consists of rigid insulation boards covered in a  layer of fiberglass mesh. Unlike traditional stucco, which uses natural materials, EIFS uses synthetic ones like polystyrene foam and fiberglass mesh. Although EIFS is pricier and not ideal for do-it-yourself projects, it offers better energy efficiency and crack resistance.

Is painting stucco recommended?

Painting stucco is common, but it's not always the best or most economical way to change the color. Paint can fade, chip, and peel over time, and each layer of paint can make it harder for the exterior to breathe. That said there are specialty paint products made for stucco and EIFS.  Precision specialises in painting stucco which is less costly than restucco.
